The Invention

Beakon Technologies develops next generation thermoelectric (TE) device. With efficiencies of 8-10 times that of today’s technology, so called Peltier-elements, the Beakon chip will revolutionize the way we use and recycle energy. Heat is a major problem in increasing the performance of electronic devices. The Beakon chip can provide a cooling solution for applications like computers, cell phones, lasers but also replace traditional cooling systems like the compressor in a refrigerator.

The Beakon chip, which consists of different semiconductor materials built using nanotechnology, has many advantages compared to common cooling technology: It is small, environmentally friendly, robust and can momentarily switch from cooling to heating.

Besides working as a heat exchanger, where you supply electricity to pump heat, the device can convert heat into electricity. Since about two thirds of all energy consumed is being lost in non-utilized waste heat, the Beakon chip can make a huge impact on recycling energy, reducing our overall energy demand. Applications include prolonging battery time in portable electronic devices as well as generating electricity in a hybrid car and reduce CO2 emissions.
